If you are willing to do a lot of work just
to spread anime...
If you would like to become a mirror of the ADS...
Then I got a deal for you.
I can get you a free domain name such as mirror#.animedownload.net
I can get you a free email account such as mirror#@animedownload.net
I can get you privileged access to the main site (and some mirrors)
Here is what you need:
- A computer that is connected to the internet with upload bandwidth
of at least 20 kB/s.
- Willingness to run FREE server software during regularly scheduled
hours (doesn't have to be 24/7 but should be easy for example: "10pm
to 10am every day") for a period of 60 days.
- Willingness to donate at least 1 GB (preferably 2-3 or more) to the cause. 1GB is really the minimum but there is no maximum. The main site currently uses 18 GB.
You do
NOT need to know how to set up an FTP server, but you must be willing
to download and install one. (I can set up the server software on your
Windows machine over the internet if you use the FREE software I mentioned).
You MAY not need a stable IP address. But if not then it will require
extra software (which may also be FREE now).
Before you volunteer to become a mirror, you should read some of the
legal ramifications and the guidelines I have established to minimize
damages to all parties.
If you are interested, send e-mail to StartMirror@animedownload.net
and tell me that you meet the criteria above. I will give you instructions
on how to download software if you need it. In your letter please tell
me:
1. What
hours you think the server can run
2. What software you want to use (see note
below)
3. What files you would like to carry or
how much space you can spare on your HDD if you are willing to let me
choose. If you let me choose I will pick files that don't have mirrors
already and which are popular downloads on the ADS.
4. If you have any ADS files already, let
me know that too.

Note on server software:=WarFTP is FREE and can be downloaded from tucows.com. WarFTP is very good. (WINDOWS)
=The main site uses Serv-U ($40) which I like more for personal reasons. You can get a demo of this software at tucows.com (WINDOWS)
=Unix/Linux has a bunch of free FTP servers but I have not tried them. If you have one of these OS's installed then you probably don't need to install anything.
= I don't have any mirrors on Apple computers at this time but I think there is a primitive FTP server that comes with the OS. Can some one confirm?
