1. What
is a FTP Server? How it works? How do I Connect to the ADS Servers?
Read the
CuteFTP guide or the the
BulletProof FTP guide to learn how to use a FTP client and
connect it to the ADS servers.
2. I'm getting that «Too many users» message
too often, what should I do?
You *MUST* follow this
guide lines in order to set up your FTP Client correctly
and to help you compete with hundreds (or thousands) of another users
trying to log in at same time.
3. Can I request videos that i want to you put
up in your server?
You can request that stuff be added
to the site and I am very interested in your input. I was just about to
start putting Kenshin up (by many requests) but I was asked by Sony not
to.
4. Are the files available only for a limited
time?
At the moment, there is no intention
to remove files. I would rather buy more HDD space than remove files from
the server. However, money is tight at the moment and I am running out
of space. If necessary I will start a "rotation directory" where older
files are rotated through once a month to make room for the newer files.
5. Can I ask for a private account? I can upload
lots of anime videos!
If you want to donate copies of said
material, I will have not trouble seeing that it gets posted almost immediately.
In that case, contact me so that we can be sure it meets the standards
of ethics (meaning no commercially released stuff) and so I can give a
special login access to upload with.
6. Would you upload HENTAI related movies?
I don't have the bandwidth to support
pornography.
7. Do you distribute anime videos officially
released in U.S.A?
I will not distribute anything that
has been commercially released in the U.S.A. either as a Sub or a Dub.
As a general rule I will not distribute untranslated material either (such
as MP3's or music videos)
8. How much bandwidth is available on the ADS
main site? And mirrors?
The real question is how much bandwidth
does my ISP provide. In June 1996 it was nearly 50 kB/s and sometimes
it is still that high (particularly at 3am). However the average bandwidth
has slowly dropped to about 25 kB/s and continues to fall. There are times
when the upstream bandwidth of my sight has been lower than 10 kB/s for
several continuous hours. I have no control of this. Each of the mirrors
has their own limits but most of them are higher than the main site. I
can only suggest that you try them and see.
9. When will you put up new files?
New files are coming up all the time.
Please sign on to the ADS announcements mailing
list to find out about new files (and other cool stuff) as they happen.
10. What do I need to play the files avaliable
in the server?
You should use programs
like XingMPEG
Player or Windows
Media Player.
11. I'm getting a message saying "Invalid
IP address". What is wrong?
I don't distribute to Japan or other
Far East countries (here
is why). I perform this blocking based primarily on your IP address.
Unfortunately one group of IP addresses was unaccounted for in the registries
at IANA. To be safe I had to block all these addresses even though most
of them were not in Japan. If you are getting an "invalid IP" address
and you are NOT in Japan then you should feel free to contact
me and I will fix it so you have access. BUT before you contact
me, read this
notes.
12. How can I help the Anime Download Site?
Please read the Help
the ADS page of this web site if you are interested. This web site
was written by someone who volunteered to help. The latest mirror site
is someone who volunteered to help. The Kodocha files and the DNS services
(animedownload.net) are provided by someone who volunteered to help. There
are lots of things you could do to help too so please read that
page if you want to make this site better.
