Of course I'll answer the first question first since it's the simpler of the two. To view the contents of most ADS servers, just use any ftp client, input the host (ie. mirror2.animedownload.net), and log on with Username: view and Password: only

Now on to the burning question.
Well, the best way to get these files is by using a special method, bulletproof ftp, and a lot of patience.

1. Okay, first, get a copy of Bulletproof FTP
2. Next, install it as directed by the program's instuctions.
3. Once you're done, you have to make a few adjustments to the default options to make it compatible with our servers. I will take you through that step-by-step. Now in any order, change the ff: (I've included screenshots to help you through the process)
   • Go to Options->General Options...->General Tab
     Set 'Timeout (Minutes)' to 3. Set 'Retry delay (Seconds)' to 30. Set 'Maximum number of retries' to 9999. Then input your email address (optional)
     
   • Go to Options->General Options...->Toggles Tab
     Make sure 'Auto refresh' and 'Fast directory changes' are checked and the rest of the options are unchecked
     
   • Go to Options->General Options...->Events Tab
     Select 'Disconnect from site' radio button for 'On transfer completion' action, and select 'Transfer queued files' radio button for 'On connect' action. Leave the command line blank.
     
   • Go to Options->Download Options...
     Select 'Smaller' radio button for 'If destination file size is' action, select 'Older' radio button for 'and if the destination file date/time is' action, and select 'Resume it' radio button for 'then' action. Make sure the 'Confirm/Override options with dialog box' is checked
     
     
4. Then, once you've made the adjustments above, log on to the server(s) with view/only
5. Then, select the file(s) and folder(s) you want to download
   
   And drag them down to the Queue window like shown above
   
6. Disconnect and change the 'Login' and 'Pass' to ads/ads respectively
   
7. Press the 'Go' button and just be patient, go get a nap, play some video games, do some homework, whatever. As soon as you get in the files will automatically start transferring/resuming so everything is hands free. The key here is patience and an unlimited internet connection.

There, this method is the only sure fire way to do it. As far as I know, only Bulletproof FTP is able to achieve this, anything else, you do at your own discretion.

And in case you are wondering there is no "good" time to log in. The server(s) is/are full 24/7
